Summer is great for a ton of reasons, but an especially tasty one is all the best fruits are in season! When it comes to watermelon, this particular fruit is flexible in many different forms. Whether it's in a drink or on the grill, it's the perfect addition to any meal! Check out some of our favorite ways to enjoy watermelon, just in time for summer!
As if a salad isn’t already refreshing enough – try one that has watermelon as the main ingredient! This salad takes five minutes to throw together.
Cut up watermelon into one-inch cubes (or buy them pre-cut to make it even easier). Add feta cheese, EVOO, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Throw some finely-cut mint leaves on top to garnish. A drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette and diced strawberries are optional!
Add a little sweetness to your life – and your chips – with this simple recipe.
Combine lime juice (use three limes) and a tablespoonful of sugar into a medium-sized bowl. Stir the mixture, before tossing in 1-cm cubes of watermelon, cucumber, mango, jalapeño, and onions. We’re letting you choose how much of each fruit/veggie to use – depending how hot or sweet you want your salsa. Top off the concoction with salt, pepper, and basil leaves. Serve with your favorite tortilla chips and a glass of Watermelon Sangria.
Watermelon BBQ Sauce
Slather this on a chicken breast and pulled pork…or honestly, you could probably just eat it by the spoonful. This tasty sauce will have you licking the bowl clean.
Puree a cup of watermelon and add a couple cloves of garlic, ½ cup ketchup, ¼ cup brown sugar, 2 tbsp. soy sauce, and a tablespoon of balsamic and white vinegar each. Simmer in a saucepan on the stove, and coat whatever meats you have on deck!
If you thought putting salt on your watermelon was odd – what about grilling it up?
Cut your melon into traditional wedges. Run slices under cold water, and soak up the excess water with paper towels. Coat the slices in olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper, before throwing it onto the grill. Grill over high heat, until you see black marks form on the fruit. It’s a treat that’s just as tasty as it is easy to make!
If you prefer your fruit in juice form, we’ve got you covered as well!
Remove as many seeds as you can from the melon. Throw watermelon chunks into a blender. Add lime juice, stir, and serve. Too easy. If you’re over 21, add vodka for the adult variation. My personal favorite is Deep Eddy Grapefruit Vodka for a refreshing drink!
Sangria is a classic summertime drink, so naturally we had to put a watermelon spin on ours!
Take the watermelon juice from above, and add a bottle of white wine, 6 oz. of vodka, 4 oz. of triple sec, and 4 oz. of citrus syrup. Let the mixture refrigerate for several hours, and enjoy!
