The Thibodaux Firemen’s Fair, dubbed “southeast Louisiana’s largest fundraising fair,” is set for May 2 to May 5 at the Thibodaux Fire Department Fairgrounds.
The free, family-friendly fair features a daily music lineup, food, rides, a parade, the Firemen’s 5K race and Fun Run, among other activities at the huge event supporting the Thibodaux Volunteer Fire Department.
Grammy-nominated country artist Jo Dee Messina headlines the 2019 Thibodaux Firemen’s Fair on May 4. The event also attracts several other regional bands performing each day of the fest. Other acts scheduled to perform include Category 6, Fuel, Chase Tyler Band, The Groove and Royal Blugarou featuring Wayne Toups.
The Thibodaux Firemen’s Parade, annually held on last day of the fair, rolls at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 5.
Parade organizers say the crowd favorite is one of the longest-running parades in Louisiana. Parade-goers can watch Thibodaux’s firefighters roll through the streets on decorative floats and fire trucks. Organizers also say the parade is a time for family and friends to gather and show their appreciation to members of the department who volunteer their time to protect their lives and property in times of need.
The parade route begins at St. Joseph’s Elementary School, 501 Cardinal Drive, and proceeds down Menard Street, Fifth Street and St. Mary’s Street. The parade then turns down Tiger Drive and ends at the fairgrounds.
Fair organizers say they will have plenty of food options for fair guests, including the Famous Firemen’s Fair Burger. The event features authentic fair cuisine, which event organizers say is one of the huge draws for hungry crowds. Some of the options include local favorites like jambalaya, shrimp creole, gumbo, Boudin and crawfish pie. Attendees can also enjoy carnival-style foods such as funnel cakes and turkey legs.
Atteendees can purchase pay-one-price armbands at the fair for unlimited carnival rides per day. The wide selection of rides spans from kid-friendly to attractions for thrill seekers. Some of the attractions include bumper cars, Tilt-A-Whirl and the traditional Ferris wheel. There are also plenty of carnival games. Bracelets are available for purchase Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and are valid for the day purchased only.
Fair hours are Thursday, May 2 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday, May 3 from 5 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Saturday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The event helps support the Thibodaux Volunteer Fire Department. Admission is free.
