Grammy-winning reggae artist Shaggy and 2019 NBA All-Star Game halftime performer Anthony Hamilton will both be on hand to rock the Treme Threauxdown on Saturday, April 27 at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans.
The two artists are the first guests to be announced for the fifth installment of what has become a signature Jazz Fest event. Additional guest stars will be announced in the coming weeks, and as in years past the 2019 show will include surprise appearances.
“Whether it’s on the road or here at home in New Orleans, all the band and I do is throw down. It’s all I know how to do,” said Trombone Shorty from the road in Europe where he wrapped up an 11-date European swing on March 29. “Growing up playing second lines for four hours a day in the streets of New Orleans–we just love to play music. I’ve never done anything else.”
“The Treme, it’s like no other place in the city,” Shorty continued. “It’s changing, but it’s still a beautiful place. When we play our music at the Saenger each April, you can feel the spirit, you can feel the love. You can feel where it all came from: the Treme.”
Guests who have performed with Trombone Shorty and the band at the previous four Treme Threauxdown installments include Usher, Dierks Bentley, Andra Day, Nick Jonas, Wyclef Jean, Irma Thomas, Jon Batiste, Allen Toussaint, Juvenile, Dr. John, CeeLo, Ivan and Cyril Neville, Terence Blanchard, Mystikal, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
The Treme Threauxdown takes place annually during the opening weekend of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and has been called “a festival within a festival” by The Boston Globe. Billboard raved that the Threauxdown is “so full of performance energy, New Orleans tradition and guest drop-ins, it felt like the festival in miniature.”
Tickets for the Treme Threauxdown–which sold out in 2018–are on sale now at the Saenger Theatre Box Office, ticketmaster.com, LiveNation.com or by calling 800-745-3000. The box office, located at 1111 Canal St., is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
