The “Slowest Second Line on Earth” will roll through the streets of the French Quarter when Brennan’s annual turtle parade kicks off at 11 a.m. this Saturday.
The Krewe of Turtles, a 10 float wagon parade in honor of Brennan’s 10 Turtles, rides with turtles on mini custom-themed wagon floats led by bagpipes and drummers. Food Network’s “Chopped Junior” winner Kaj Friss-Hecht will serve as the parade’s Junior Marshal.
The free annual event, now in its third year, is part of a Brennan’s restaurant “Tale of Ten Turtles” tradition of adopting a family of ten turtles to inhabit the fountain pool in the restaurant’s courtyard. The team also names the reptiles after the “mother sauces” of French cuisine.
The parade route begins at 500 Bienville Street, continues down Chartres Street to St. Peter Street and then turns onto Royal Street, arriving at Brennan’s Restaurant.
An after party follows the parade in Brennan’s courtyard where the turtles will be pardoned and blessed. Guests can enjoy champagne, cocktails and appetizers.
