Watch the sunset and then paddle under the moonlight through Manchac Swamp

Canoe and Trail Adventures, a Mandeville-based company, will be hosting a moonlight paddle through the Manchac Swamp on April 28.

A Louisiana Master Naturalist will guide outdoor enthusiasts on a journey through the remote swamp.

The tour includes a beautiful viewing of the sunset over the swamp. The group will break during the sunset and you enjoy dinner or a snack while watching the sunset from the shoreline

Paddling Under The Moonlight

After the sunsets and the moon is bright, the tour group will use the moonlight to guide them back to the shore.

Matt May, a guide with Canoe and Trail Adventures, says, “You’ll be amazed how your eyesight will adapt to the lingering twilight glow.”

May also explains that the tour guides move at a comfortable place for beginning paddlers and will periodically stop to talk about certain places in the swamp. At every stop, the tour guides check in with every member of the group to ensure safety.

How To Sign Up

The cost is $45 per individual or $80 for two paddlers in a tandem canoe. Paddlers who bring their own canoe or kayak will receive a $15 discount. Children between 6 and 10 years of age can be added as a passenger for $10.

If you’re interested in participating in the moonlight paddle, May recommends you register ahead online:

Participants will receive instructions on where the group will launch upon registration.

What To Bring

Paddlers should also bring bottles of water, a meal or snack, flashlight, bug spray, and rain gear.

Canoe and Trail Adventures will provide canoes, paddles, life vests, and waterproof cases to protect smartphones.
