Jefferson Parish residents can register for free swim lessons this summer. The YMCA of Greater New Orleans is offering free classes to the community at the Johnny Jacobs Swimming Pool for ages 3 to adult, according to a release.
These lessons will focus on water safety as well as swim basics to get you or your child comfortable while in the water, the release said.

Swimming lessons will be divided into two groups: 3 years old to 12 years old and 13 years old and older. These groups can participate in multiple sessions during the months of June and July.
Lessons for ages 3 to 12 will be offered on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings at various times between 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. YMCA will offer six, 45-minute lessons per session.
Classes for ages 13 years to adult will be offered on Saturday mornings at various times between 9 a.m. and noon. YMCA will offer four, one-hour lessons.

Registration is at 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 18 and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 19 at Johnny Jacobs Gymnasium, 5851 5th Avenue in Marrero.
Registrations are accepted on a first come, first serve basis, until programs are full. You must register in person and show proof of Jefferson Parish residency, such as a water bill or electric bill. No registrations will be accepted once program is closed.
The free swimming lessons are in partnership with Jefferson Parish Community Foundation, Councilman Mark Spears and the Department of Parks and Recreation.
