The potatoes are the true stars at Spudly's Super Spuds.
For more than 35 years, Spudly’s Super Spuds has served up “a meal in a baked potato” to the New Orleans area. It’s a pretty straight-forward concept: The main focus is giant baked potatoes piled high with delicious toppings.
Twenty over-stuffed potatoes, called Super Spuds, fill the menu, with options like the roast beef-stuffed “Beef It Up” and the chili-topped “El Toro.”
Owner Laurie Aicklen said the restaurant goes through around 400 pounds of baked potatoes each day.
When Spudly’s originally opened in 1980, it originally only served the trademark potatoes. The casual dining restaurant eventually evolved under Aicklen’s ownership to expand menu offerings.
The Super Duper, the most popular item, is a monster, seafood-stuffed spud. The spud comes loaded with topping like crabmeat, shrimp, crawfish, margarine, cheddar, chives and Spudly’s original cheese sauce. As as a little lagniappe, you’ll even get a dinner roll on the side.
In addition to the spuds, the menu features spud skins, soups, salads, gourmet burgers and specialty sandwiches.
Spudly’s Super Spuds is located at 2609 Harvard Avenue in Metairie. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The restaurant closes on Sundays.
